With XP I could upload video from my JVC camcorder to Windows Movie Maker but now that I have Windows 7 when I connect my camcorder by firewire I hear the audible signal for a device connection but when I go to my computer my camcorder has not been given a drive to upload from. I was told by someone at Microsoft that I needed to contact the maker of my computer to get a codec so that movie maker recognizes the port to upload video. I built my own computer so where am I to get this codec. Thanks for any help! First, Please let us know the detail model of your camcorder and the model of your pc. If you need codec, you can try to install this codec, here it is: I hope this can help you.John. I am having a similar problem. I own a JVC GY-HD110E camcorder. I tried connecting it to my HP laptop using Windows 7. Initally it seemed to be recognising it.
Then I opened PowerDirector which didn't accept it instead it went straightto webcam. The camcorder was connected to my laptop with a 6 pin to 4 pin firewire cable. 6 pin from the IEEE 1394 socket from the camcorder to the 4 pin socket on the laptop.
The laptop makes the audible signal but no joy in PowerDirector.I have also tried connecting it my my PC which is running Windows XP. Again it seemed to accept it but no joy with Windows Movie Maker. Are you familiar with this camcorder? What can I do to have my laptop accept it? Is this model of camcorder compatible with Windows 7 and XP?I look forward to hearing your reply with possible solutions if you have any.Regards.
